Driving

I remember when going anywhere was quick and easy. I could pack up a few things and be on the road in an hour or less. Those were the good old days! Now that I have a leech and it takes a team of people hours to get anything accomplished. I'm happy on the days I get dressed before dinner... it truly is the little things in life!

I wrote a list and have checked it a million times! I want to make sure I don't forget anything. My aunt keeps reminding me that I'm not going to outer Mongolia, I can go to the store if I forget something. I would really like to think that I have it together enough to pack everything I need. I would be really frustrated to have to go out and buy something when I know I already have it at home.

I was able to be fully packed in the car and on the road by noon. Lindsay and I had to stop by Grandma's house to say good-bye and drop off Eric. This was much later than I had planned, but I still felt pretty good about being ready by then. Justin likes the 5 freeway, but I think there are too many cows and not enough stops... especially when I will have to make extra stops due to feeding. So I choose to drive down the 99.

We were making pretty good time and I had just told Holley that the baby would probably sleep at least another hour. I spoke to soon! I put the phone down and looked up to a cloud of dust. Luckily I looked at the car in front of me in enough time to notice brake lights and a quick stop. I don't know why everyone is worried about cell phones, I was way more distracted by the dust cloud and could have caused another accident.

It turned out that a Chevy truck had drifted off the road and over corrected. It rolled and landed in the middle of the two lanes of traffic on its side. Just great! Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for the people in the truck, but it was blazing hot outside and the baby woke up! With the price of gas being so expensive, I turned the car off and rolled the windows down. It didn't help much and Lindsay and I were out in the heat in no time.

Lindsay enjoyed the stretching time and the train that went by. She made several friends, since everyone else had hopped out of their vehicles too. One big trucker guy asked to hold her, I didn't see a problem... it's not like he could take off with her or anything. She just melted him, it was cute! It took about an hour until we were allowed to move around the accident. Thanks to Lindsay, or I should say her trucker friend, we got out pretty quickly. He let us go in front of him and not get stuck waiting for someone to let us in.

The rest of the drive went well until I hit the 405 parking lot. I was getting so excited thinking, I've got an hour to go and then dead stop! The baby crying in the back didn't make time go by any faster. All in all it took 7 hours. Not to bad considering the accident and parking. I'm glad that we got there safely and that we are now enjoying the ocean breeze!
