We are one of the lucky people who have an East facing front door. I don't think the builders thought about that at all. I mean, hello, we live on the sun and its roasting all summer! There are no trees, houses or anything to diffuse the harsh sun from pounding down our front door.
The morning sun heats up the house and we can't get it cooled off all day. It's no good! Justin and I discussed many options for the window and that was as far as we got... Until today!! Justin got a fan shade at Lowe's to see if it would work for the window. We like seeing the night sky and didn't want to lose that ability, but the bright sun in the morning was making life completely unbearable.
While Justin was on the phone I got the shade in the window! It had to be cut down, so I measured twice which ended up being a good thing. There was a pre-measured strip on the shade, but that measure strip didn't match the numbers from the measuring tape. I think that was a ploy to get us to buy another shade after we cut the first one too short. I'm glad I'm smarter than the shade :)
I waited to see what Justin would say when he noticed. It didn't take long, he notices everything! He was impressed how nice the shade looked, especially since it was our inexpensive option. It was funny though because he kept thinking it was overcast all day. The sunlight still comes through the shade, but it really cuts down on the heat. I'm really happy with it and so are my eyes.
