We've been pushing pretty hard the last little bit. Justin has been away from home for two months, with the exception of eight overnight visits, not consecutive. I'm still trying to catch up with laundry and getting stuff put away from LA. I'm exhausted to say the least. It was so much easier to travel and fly by the seat of my pants when it was only me. Two little tag-a-longs are draining!
Being that I didn't want to sleep in the truck I had tried calling ahead to a few campsites, but they were booked. Justin didn't feel this was as important, so we were off without a destination. Yet another aspect of "fun" we were supposed to be having. Once again, not "fun" to me. We packed up the truck and headed out.
After 7 long hours in the car, countless stops at campsites asking if there were any availabilities, car sick clean-up and a desperate call to my aunt for some family phone numbers, we made it! I told Eric as we were pulling in to cross his fingers since the "FULL" sign wasn't hanging on the main sign. It must have fallen off because it was hanging in the registration booth. Just as I was thinking we were going to be camping in the car or making a really long drive south, the lady said she had one spot she could give away since she was closing soon. YEAH!! The long search was over! I couldn't be happier.
My job was getting the tent up. I had a severe brain fart. I hadn't put the tent up in almost a year and I wasn't sure where the poles went. Luckily it didn't take long for my common sense to kick in and the tent was up! Justin was cooking while I got the tent set up. It went pretty quick. Before long we had a lovely meal of hotdogs, corn on the cob and homemade potato salad. It was yummy! After some flashlight fighting (Eric and Lindsay) we were all settled and asleep! Good night.
Tip of the day: Don't try to camp on the California coast during the summer without reservations!
